Guide for Evaluators

The CAISA Guide for Evaluators

The Guide for Evaluators has been revised to accompany the Seventh Edition of the NEASC/CIS Guide to School Evaluation and Accreditation on accreditation visits.

Among the most noteworthy changes in the Seventh Edition is the reordering of accreditation standards from sixteen sections to seven:

            A – Philosophy and Objectives
            B – Curriculum
            C – Governance and Management
            D – Staff
            E – Student Support Services
            F – Resources
G – Student and Community Life

Each Guide for Evaluators will assist team members in carrying out their responsibilities to review the school’s self-study, observe the school in progress, meet with members of the school community, prepare portions of the visiting team report, and join in recom-mending the school’s accreditation status. Usually, team members will be assigned a section (Curriculum, Philosophy and Objectives or the like) and one or more subjects (English, mathematics, science or the like.)

As you review the Seventh Edition, you’ll note the increasing emphasis on horizontal and vertical articulation in the school curriculum. For that reason, the 2003 Committee on Guides for Evaluators separated the Curriculum guide into two parts. The first document, (B – Curriculum), is designed to assist team members who will evaluate the curriculum of one of the school divisions (Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle School, or Secondary School.) The emphasis here will be on horizontal articulation.

The second document, (B – Curriculum – Subject Areas), is applicable to the evaluation of any academic subject (English, mathematics, science.) The focus will be on the subject’s vertical articulation throughout the school.  You can download your sections for the committees that you have been assigned to by the chair.
