The Council of International Schools (CIS) is a not-for-profit organization of a truly worldwide international educational community currently comprising over 607 member schools and 453 colleges/universities. It has experience in K-12 education in more than 107 countries. and colleges/universities located in 23 countries.
CIS presently accredits 248 schools and has 78 schools in candidacy status.
Many of the Council's officers and consultants are former heads of international schools.
The central purpose of CIS is to enable member organization to achieve and deliver the highest standards in international education and continually improve the outcome of student learning.
CIS sets and develops standards for international education worldwide and manages the accreditation process. Its guide and its Standards were developed in a collaborative process involving CIS and the New England Association of Schools & Colleges (NEASC) and may not be copied or used without specific written agreement from CIS or NEASC.
